By the end of the fifties Jaguar was one of the most distinguished makes of British car. They represented tradition, but with high performance and polished 24 carat technology. The final worldwide break-through was achieved when, on 15th March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar exhibited the XK-E, the famous E-Type that was to become a legend. The E-Type was a totally new design, apart from the drive unit that it inherited from its predecessors, and it generated an absolute infatuation with the Jaguar. The aerodynamic styling with its aggressive lines was derived from the ideas of its designer Malcolm Sayer and the founder of the company, Sir William Lyons. It radiated sensational modernity, without losing the typical rounded Jaguar shape.
