Material Introduction
Polyurethane (PU) elastomer is a type of elastic material which lies in between rubber and plastic. It possesses not only the high elasticity of rubber but also the high intensity of plastic. It performs outstandingly in abrasion resistance biocompatibility and hemocompatibility. Meanwhile it features high oil resistance high impact resistance low temperature resistance high load capacity and heat & electrical insulation properties
Although the production output of PU elastomers is not massive in the polyurethane industry the variety of PU elastomers in terms of types processing methods and applications are still incomparable by other PU products PU elastomers can be classified into 3 categories as Cast Thermoplastic and Millable according to their processing characteristics.
Cast Polyurethane (CPU) elastomer Has the widest application and the highest output among all PU elastomers; its advantages are high oil resistance and high intensity. Its extensive range of hardness enables it to be extreme soft or hard. However its disadvantages are non-recyclable and high wastage processing in small products is complicated and high production costs are the reasons that it is unsuitable for small output products.
Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) elastomer Is about 25% of the total PU elastomers production output. It can be molded and its scraps are recyclable. However its intensity is lower than CPU elastomer. It has a smaller range of hardness and unable to produce low hardness product.
