Description

SF Aquatic Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentate), also known as Yamato Shrimp, are one of the most popular and hardy freshwater aquarium species. They grow about twice as large as dwarf shrimp, attaining a maximum size of over two inches, and they typically live a much longer lifespan! They are native to Southeast Asia, including Japan, Taiwan, and Fiji. Their bodies are clear with an aqua blue tint, and are covered in small, dark red dots. Unlike most dwarf shrimp species, Amano Shrimp will only reproduce in brackish water, so they will almost certainly never breed in a home aquarium. Like most shrimp, Amano Shrimp live in large colonies and spend most of their time foraging for food. These active yet peaceful aquarium pets are possibly the most voracious aquarium clearers you will find! A colony of them will often eradicate even the most persistent growth on plants and decor, sometimes even clearing aquarium glass. The bulk of their diet is biofilm and decaying plant matter, so they will work hard to clear up any aquarium. However, they do not bother live plants. In a less mature aquarium, they can be fed high quality flake and mini pellet dry foods with high spirulina/plant content. Amano Shrimp are compatible with smaller, peaceful fish, including the following: Danios, Rasboras, Guppies, Endlers, Cherry Barbs, and dwarf Tetras. They are also compatible with most types of snail, like Nerites and Mystery Snails. Other dwarf shrimp species are also compatible, such as Orange Sakura Shrimp, Green Jade Shrimp, and Blue Diamond Shrimp.
