Description

Dwarf White Isopods (Trichorhina tomentosa) Size and Appearance: Dwarf White Isopods are incredibly small, measuring under 0.5 cm (less than 1/4 inch) when fully grown. Their bright white coloring provides a strong contrast, making them easy to spot despite their miniature size. These little isopods are positively dwarfed by larger species like the Dairy Cow Isopods. Behavior: Unlike bolder, larger isopods, Dwarf Whites prefer to hide, burrow, and play dead when exposed. While not the most exciting pets, their utility lies elsewhere. Advantages: Adaptable: These tropical beauties thrive in a wide range of conditions, but they favor hot and humid habitats, making them ideal for tropical terrariums. Prolific Breeders: Thanks to their parthenogenetic ability, every adult can produce offspring, allowing them to establish quickly and multiply rapidly. Solid Cleanup Crew: Despite their small stature, Dwarf Whites are fantastic tank custodians. Their numbers and appetite keep terrariums/vivariums healthy. Substrate Aerators: Their burrowing behavior keeps the substrate fresh and fertilized in bioactive setups, while also protecting them from larger predators. Feeder Insects: For vivariums with smaller inhabitants (like frogs and geckos), Dwarf White Isopods make a great snack! Care: Temperature and Humidity: They thrive in hot and humid conditions. Habitat and Substrate: Provide hiding spots and a suitable substrate for burrowing. Feeding: They'll scavenge and help clean up organic matter. Culturing: Start with just a few Dwarf Whites—they'll multiply on their own.
