Considered the most iconic tractor John Deere ever produced and the most popular of the 20 series New Generation tractors, the 4020 Tractor was available in three configurations: row-crop, standard, and hi-crop. The most significant option for the 4020 was the new PTO or power shift transmission, allowing the operator to shift between eight forward-moving speeds and four reserved speeds with a single lever.
