Plane Prototype History:
The Sea King HC.4 Assault Transport Helicopter Is A Multi-Purpose Aircraft Developed By The Uk In The 1970s Based On The American Sikorsky S-61 Helicopter, Specifically Designed For Troop Transport And Amphibious Operations. This Model Was Produced By For Westland Corporation And First Flew In 1979. It Became An Important Equipment For The Royal Marines And Special Forces In The 1980s And Was Retired In 2016. The HC.4 Has Eliminated The Float Structure Of The Original Anti Submarine Model And Adopted A Short Float Type Main Landing Gear, Simplifying The Fuselage Design And Expanding The Cabin Space. It Can Carry 28 Fully Armed Soldiers Or 2.5 Tons Of External Cargo (Such As Light Vehicles Or Artillery). Its Power System Uses Two For Rolls Royce Gnome 1400-1 Turboshaft Engines, Each With A Power Of 1400 Shaft Horsepower, With A Maximum Range Of 600 Nautical Miles (Approximately 1111 Kilometers) And A Cruising Speed Of 208 Kilometers Per Hour, Suitable For Long-Range Assault Missions. In Order To Improve The Performance In High-Temperature And High-Altitude Environments, A New Type Of Main Rotor And Night Vision System Were Installed In The Later Improvements. HC.4 Participated In Several Major Military Operations In The Uk, Including The 1982 Falklands War, The 1991 Gulf War, The Afghanistan War, And The Balkan Peninsula Conflict. During Its Deployment In Afghanistan, Its Tasks Included Personnel Transportation, Battlefield Supply, And Casualty Evacuation, Demonstrating A Versatile Capability. In Addition, The Uk Has Provided Three Retired HC.4 Aircraft To Ukraine For Support Missions In The Russia-Ukraine Conflict In 2022. A Total Of 42 HC.4 Aircraft Were Produced And Exported To Countries Such As Egypt And India, In Addition To The Uk. Its Design Experience Propelled The British Experimental Rotor Program (Berp), Laying The Foundation For The Rotor Technology Of The Subsequent Bobcat And Merlin Helicopters. In 2016, The HC.4 Was Replaced By The Agustawestland Aw101 Merlin Helicopter, Ending Its Nearly 40 Year Service Life. Despite Retirement, Its Modular Design Concept And Practical Performance Are Still Regarded As A Model For Medium-Sized Transport Helicopters.
