This system supports six (6) Single or Dual Rank Reg ECC RDIMMs or four (4) Quad Rank RDIMMs or ECC UDIMMs. Mixing Registered ECC and Unbuffered ECC modules is not supported within this system.
Intel Xeon 3400 series processors use Registered memory. Intel Celeron, Pentium, and Core i processors use ECC-Unbuffered memory, not Registered memory
How to Upgrade Quad Rank RDIMMs: Virtually any configuration up to 32GB can be reached using 4GB and 8GB QR RDIMMs up to four modules. Single or Dual Rank RDIMMs: Virtually any configuration up to 24GB can be reached by using 1, 2 and 4GB SR or DR RDIMMs up to 6 modules. How to Upgrade ECC UDIMMs: Virtually any configuration up to 16GB can be reached using Kingston's 1, 2 and 4GB ECC UDIMMs up to four modules.
