In 2017, a comprehensive study of nasal plugs using samples over a two-year period was published in the Netherlands by Dr. teGrotenhuis. The paper, titled "Use of Hemostatic Nasal Plugs in Emergency Medical Services In The Netherlands" concluded that the nasal plug is an effective adjunct in the prehospital treatment of severe and uncontrolled epistaxis (nosebleeds).
