About this item: Catrina tempts with a plate of forbidden fruits as she poses in a revealing blue dress with flowers by her feet. As always, she wears a wide-brimmed hat. Angel Cerón is inspired by the celebrated cartoon developed by José Guadalupe Posadas to poke fun at Mexico's high society during the early 1900's. Revealing Catrina's skeletal figure, the Oaxacan clay sculpture is painted by hand. Catrina's head can be removed. - Hand-crafted item -- color, size and/or motif may vary slightly - May present subtle cracks - Some assembly required About our Artist: Angel Ceron comes from a family with generations of artisan experience. He learned the family ceramic techniques from his father, Antonio Ceron Orta, a renowned artisan. Angel began a long study of Mexico's pre-Hispanic cultures and learned the Nahuatl language spoken in ancient Mesoamerica. He uses clay from northern Oaxaca state, the only clay of this kind in Mexico and perhaps in the world. The unique characteristics of this yellow clay make it ideal for his work.
