The story begins with engineer jack leary responding to a distress signalfrom the neighbouring mars mining facility, fort solis, located deep within the desolate desertof the red planet. Faced with imminent sandstorm warnings, jack ventures inside to establish contact with the crew only to find himslef alone and the base abandoned.
