Demeter is an Ancient Greek goddess traditionally associated with the harvest, agriculture, fertility, and the seasons. She is known for teaching humankind the art of farming and is often portrayed holding wheat sheaves. Demeter is perhaps best known for the myth of Persephone, her daughter, who was kidnapped by Hades, the god of the underworld. In response, Demeter caused the earth to become barren until her daughter was returned, explaining the changing of seasons. She was worshipped primarily by farmers and was often associated with abundance and prosperity.
