Description

The "pony car," the first of the muscle cars, was named after the successful World War II fighter airplane, P-51 Mustang, first rolling off the manufacturing floor in 1964. Bud Moore's road-racing experience in NASCAR paid off when Ford appointed Bud Moore Racing to campaign a pair of Boss 302 Mustangs for 1969. Beaten by 14 Championship points to Roger Penske's Camaro driven by Mark Donahue in 1969, Bud Moore's team returned with a vengeance in the 1970 Trans-Am series to win 6 of the 11 races to take the Trans-Am Championship with drivers Parnelli Jones (No. 15) and George Follmer (No. 16). Jones also won the Drivers' Championship.
