Wheel locks are great to keep thieves away from your wheels, but can be a huge hassle when your key goes missing. Fortunately, Tekkey wheel locks will get you back on the road in no time!
There are two steps to identify the key you need.
(1) First, use the "Tekkey Nickel Test” to find the diameter key you need. Hold a US nickel up to the face of the lock. If the teeth/splines on the wheel lock are completely covered by the Nickel, then you need the smaller 20mm size. If the teeth/splines stick out a very little bit past the Nickel, then you need the larger 23mm size. It can be difficult to see clearly, especially as the lug nut locks are recessed in the wheel, so using a flashlight is recommended. See photo for a visual depiction of the "Tekkey Nickel Test".
(2) Next, carefully count the number of teeth/splines. Taking a picture can make counting a lot easier. Make sure to double or triple check so that you get the key you need!
Mechanics very often forget to put these back after rotating/balancing tires or working on brakes, and you may only notice months later after you get a flat, leaving you in a bad situation. Order two, and keep a spare in a separate location in your car to avoid this problem in the future!
We recommend against using power or air tools with these keys, as they are extremely strong and can strip your lock.
