Description
The National Geographic Illuminated Nicollet Globe is named for French geographer and explorer Jean-Nicolas Nicollet, who mapped the Mississippi Basin over the course of three expeditions in the 1830s after he had emigrated to the United States. His maps were the most accurate yet created at the time, and were notable for being the only ones to use Native American place names.
