A Canopy Sized by Stretch, Not by Model Number

Sizing here is settled by the yarn rather than by a chart. The knit widens over the handle and shell of most infant carriers, narrow or broad, regains its grip on every use, and therefore asks for no measuring before purchase and shows no slack weeks afterwards. That is the whole of the fitting instructions.

Two things improve the moment it is on. Harsh overhead glare is reduced to something dim and level beneath the fabric, so the bar of light that rakes a face at every bend of the road no longer reaches it, and sleep that began on the driveway has a reasonable chance of lasting the journey. And a cover with fastenings advertises its own removal, which is unhelpful at the precise moment a carrier is being hauled out of its base. This one has none. It comes away quietly, and nothing rigid is abandoned on the shell to be knocked against on the way indoors.

The peekaboo vent is set into the front panel. Mid-errand an infant remains in view through it, so a breath and a position are confirmed without a hem being raised, and air continues to move beneath the knit rather than standing warm and still inside a parked vehicle on a hot day. That is the objection to a draped blanket, and it is the reason most of them are abandoned by the second summer.

The canopy is not confined to the car. On the shoulders it seals into a full circle and screens a feed, serving as a nursing cover with nothing left ajar. Over a stroller it is shade on a walk, and over a grocery cart seat or a restaurant high chair back it substitutes fabric of your own for sticky shared plastic.
