What type of anchor should you choose for your kayak, paddle board, or small boat?
Most kayakers and paddle boarders use a 1.5 lb to 3.5 lb folding grapnel anchor because it's easy to store and grips the bottom securely. For calm lakes or rivers with little wind or current, a smaller anchor like the 1.5 lb model is generally sufficient. But for areas with surge, wind, or current, a heavier anchor is better.
Our 1.5 lb small boat anchor is ideal for:
Calm lakes and slow-moving rivers
Flats fishing from a kayak
SUP yoga and recreational paddling
Shallow waters up to 20ft
How much anchor line do you need?
For a fishing kayak or paddle board, having 3 to 5 times the depth of water in anchor line will accommodate most anchoring situations. For example, in 10 feet of water, having 30 to 50 feet of line is adequate. In very windy or high-current conditions, having more line is preferable.
Wakayanchor kayak anchor kit comes with 40ft of floating rope – enough for most shallow water applications.
