Special Features

  • SELECTIVE GROWTH MEDIUM || 500g bottle of powdered growth medium. Used to grow, maintain and study gram-negative enteric bacteria.
  • DIFFERENTIATING GROWTH MEDIUM || Tests for 3 different characteristics – production of hydrogen sulfide, formation of indole (Kovac's reagent required, not included), and motility.
  • EASY TO PREPARE || Simply mix 30 g medium with 1 L deionized water and bring to a boil while stirring to ensure medium is completely dissolved. Pour into petri dishes or culture tubes, then allow medium to cool and form a semi-solid matrix.
  • EXCELLENT FOR LABORATORIES AND CLASSROOMS || Ideal for use in general biology and microbiology laboratories and classrooms. This medium will only allow gram-negative enteric bacteria to grow. SIM Medium can be used to test for bacteria's production of hydrogen sulfide and mobility. When used with Kovac's reagent (not included) it can also confirm the formation of indole.

Description

500 grams of Sulfide Indole Motility (SIM) Agar, used to select for gram-negative bacteria and test for production of hydrogen sulfide, formation of indole (Kovac's reagent required, not included), and motility. Agar comes dehydrated in a plastic open-mouth bottle for convenient storage. Each bottle makes 16 L of semi-solid growth medium. Each bottle comes with an SDS, providing safe handling and storage information.
