Description: The Deaver Retractor is a hand held retractor. It is made of stainless steel with a curved blade and flat handle. The width of the handle is equal to the width of the retracted blade. The handle is slightly curved so that the hand holding the retractor does not slip. This is a suspended hand retractor, so assistants have a pretty hard time holding it if the surgery is prolonged, as holding it for a longer period of time is uncomfortable. The retractor is used to retract the liver in surgical procedures such as cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder), vagotomy (resection of the vagus nerve) and in cases of duodenal ulcer perforation repair.
