When to Replace:
The retention tether is a wear item that cracks from UV exposure and thermal cycling after roughly 10-15 years of service. On long-life Swedish wagons and sedans routinely kept past 200,000 miles, this part is a common maintenance replacement. Symptoms: the fuel cap no longer stays attached to the filler door, a snapped strap is visible inside the filler well, or the cap falls onto the ground during refueling.

Installation:
The tether installs without tools. Pull the perished or broken strap off the cap collar, snap the new 68 mm ring over the collar of the existing fuel cap, then clip the mounting tab into the bracket inside the filler door. The zigzag flex section absorbs cap rotation during refueling.
