Disconnect battery negative before starting.
Remove old alternator and mount the new unit using original brackets. Ensure belt alignment is straight (use shims if needed).
Connect a minimum 10‑gauge wire (8‑gauge recommended) from the alternator output (B+ stud) to battery positive or starter solenoid main terminal.
No excite wire is required – the alternator self‑excites when revved to about 1500 RPM.
If you have an original warning light, it can still work. However, the light may not turn off until the engine is revved – this is normal for 1‑wire self‑exciting units.
Reconnect battery, start engine, and rev briefly to 1500 RPM to excite. Check voltage at battery – should read 13.5‑14.7V.
