When the tailgate is closed, the hook passes through the bed side and tailgate to keep the tailgate closed. Zinc-plated chains are shiny, but should be painted for long-term exposure. Fleetside chain assembly consists of the latch bar, chain and hook. The chain cover, pivot and latch bar cover are sold separately. The latch bar covers are grey rubber pads that fit over the chain bar to prevent the metal from scraping the truck. Purchased from an outside vendor.
The Latch Eye Bracket is used with the 58-66 Fleetside assembly but sold separately. It attaches to the tailgate on each side. The chain hook goes through a hole in the latch eye bracket when the tailgate is closed.
The Pivot is used with the 58-66 Fleetside assembly and sold separately. It attaches to the back of the bed side through the latch bar -part of the chain assembly-. Requires 2 per truck.
