Save yourself from the greasy mess of traditional fifth wheel grease packets. How? By adding our latest addition, Gear Head 5th Wheel Grease Pads, to your cart. It will save you time, keep you and the truck chassis clean, eliminate the mess, and the burden of carrying a grease gun or applying the right amount to avoid waste. An environmentally friendly lubricant (without toxins) will contribute to cleaner and healthier workspaces for truckers. Moreover, the fifth-wheel maintenance becomes easier than before. It will take less than a minute. Learn more about the product below:-
Why You Need These Gear Head Grease Pads for Fifth Wheel?
It will reduce friction under heavy load. When the trailer sits on the fifth wheel (coupling), thousands of pounds of vertical load are applied, and the trailer pivots during turns. Without lubrication, there is high metal-to-metal wear, noise and binding, premature component failure, and grooving of the fifth wheel plate. That's why you need this pad for longevity.
Environmentally-Friendly Material: These fifth-wheel grease pads are constructed from soy oil-based grease. A renewable, bio-based, and eco-friendly formulation (80%) that provides high polarity (outlasts petroleum-based grease by about 50% due to the heavier viscosity). It means it will provide natural adhesion to metal surfaces, tightly bonding with the metal and ensuring superior load protection and reduced wear. The heavy-duty grease pads are further coated with a waxy solid that keeps them dry, clean, and stable until the wax breaks/melts on contact or pressure. The pads are ESG-compliant (focus on creating a safe and friendly environment for truckers) and USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) certified bio-based product.
Cleaner Than Traditional Grease: The key benefit of this USA-made pad is no mess and waste during grease application. Also, no more grease pouches plugging the fifth wheel jaws or littering the parking lots, keeping the front of the 5th wheel clean. Traditional packet grease leaves 10% waste when it bursts under pressure (when the fifth wheel plates and trailer are coupled) and fails to cover most of the plate. Whereas in these pads, truckers will not only be able to avoid over-greasing but will also ensure wide coverage. Thus, making it perfect for on-the-go lubrication at truck stops, depots, or in the fields.
Great Temperature Performance: As this fifth wheel trailer accessory is constructed from eco-friendly soy oil, it provides wide temperature performance. It will effectively perform in extreme hot and cold conditions, especially in temperatures ranging from -40°F to 150°F. The wax film only bursts under pressure; changing temperature doesn't affect its structure. Explore other fifth-wheel accessories to make operation easy.
Ideal Storage Guideline: Store in a cool and dry location (under the optimal temperature ranges). Maximum care and handling will be needed if the pads are left in direct sunlight or an unattended cab.
No Tool Installation: This 3" x 3" (length and width, respectively) pad with 1/2" thickness doesn't require heavy tools for installation. Proper use is important as incomplete lubrication may damage the top plate and trailer systems. The process is very simple: place it onto the 5th wheel plate and ensure a sufficient trailer clearance. It will enable pads to pass under the trailer without contacting. Keep a note of these points for efficient usage.
Two pads, one on each side of the plate, are sufficient. But depending on the requirement, you can place more than two pads.
Pads can break, so on bare metal, use a softer interior material to create a sticky spot for the pad to stick to.
Ensure proper contact between the 5th wheel pads and the trailer edge. If the trailer is aimed too low, the fifth wheel will push the pads off the surface. So, try to contact the upper end of the trailer edge to the 5th wheel pads (ensure they are under the trailer).
If the 5th wheel plates have never been greased, then use four grease pads for proper lubrication. Check these high-performance lubricants and degreasers that you might need during the fifth wheel coupling.
Grease will spread with the truck's rotation against the trailer; there is no need for brushing or spreading.
Usage Guidelines: Depending on the usage
During regular drop and hook operation, such as in freight yards, ports, or distribution centers, greasing is required every couple of days. A cube can be easily consumed in a week or up to 10 days.
When long hauling over the road, grease pads are required every couple of weeks.
For tankers or vehicles with very few coupling/uncoupling requirements, greasing (grease pads) will only be needed during regular vehicle service/maintenance.
Note: Gear Head grease pads are packed in a cube box, and each box contains 6 pads.
