Elevated levels (hypercholesterolemia) have been associated with cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis; whereas, low levels (hypocholesterolemia) may be linked to depression, cancer and cerebral hemorrhage. Simple, direct and automation-ready procedures for measuring cholesterol are very desirable.
