Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Longtime Disney songmeisters (and brothers) Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman banged out an exceptional musical-comedy score for the studio's 1964 adaptation of P.L. Travers's books, with huge hits, including Julie Andrews's "A Spoonful of Sugar," "Let's Go Fly a Kite," and the Oscar-winning "Chim Chim Cher-ee," performed by Dick Van Dyke. Such tight, giddy numbers are truly music for the whole family: light and silly enough to make anyone laugh and sing along but never insulting to an adult listener's intelligence. The casting was a perfect complement to the composing--on film and on record, Andrews is Mary Poppins. This album finds great talents working at the height of their powers, making for one of the best soundtracks produced by Disney or any other studio. --John Sanchez
