Compression bits are a versatile tool that combines the advantages of both Up-Cut and Down-Cut bits. Up-Cut bits efficiently evacuate shavings from grooves but can chip the top edge of cuts in plywood and other man-made materials. Conversely, Down-Cut bits leave a clean edge on the top surface but can cause blowout on the bottom in through cuts and struggle with chip evacuation. Compression bits address these issues by incorporating a 1/4" Up-Cut section followed by a Down-Cut section. This design allows users to plunge just past the Up-Cut section, ensuring a clean cut at the surface with efficient chip evacuation from deeper in the groove. This makes compression bits ideal for machining plywood, MDF, melamine veneer, and particle board.
Ultra-Shear 1/4" Solid Carbide Spiral Compression Router Bits come in various cutting lengths—1", 1-1/4", and 1-1/2"—with corresponding overall lengths of 2-1/2", 3", and 3-1/2". These router bits are suitable for use in CNC machines, template guide bushing work, handheld routers and table routers. Each compression bit comes in a 1/4" Shank & 1/4" Cut Diameter.
