Satin Spar? Gypsum? True Selenite? Ice Selenite? Sheet Selenite? Both selenite and satin spar are both forms of gypsum. They have the same chemical formula CaSO4·2H2O and metaphysical properties. Satin Spar is a sub group of gypsum characterized by having prevalent vertical growth lines and having an opaque milky color. Selenite is also a sub group of gypsum characterized by having internal cracks called veins, no vertical growth lines and a more translucent appearance then satin spar. The plates we use will have internal cracks (veins), no vertical growth lines and tend to be more translucent.
