The RE5RO5A uses seven-speed shift solenoids to achieve the shift function.
Six of the shift solenoids are linear solenoids,
and the other is a switch solenoid.
When the linear solenoids are assembled,
their operating characteristics are burned into the TCM memory of the control valve body assembly at the factory.
Therefore, the shift solenoids cannot be replaced individually.
When one or more shift solenoids fail, the entire valve body assembly with the built-in TCM must be replaced.
TCM models such as F50, Y61 and V35 require an EEPROM cleaning procedure, but J50 models do not require this procedure as the TCM and solenoid valves need to be replaced as a whole.
