It is a powder for divination normally extracted from a particular tree. The name iyerosun is actually Iye (powder) Irosun (Iyosun tree) which means that Iyerosun is a powder derived from the tree Iyosun, it is the wood dust that make termites of the tree Irosun. Sometimes Elubo, (sweetpotato flour) is used instead of iyerosun. Either way this is not a common practice. Iyerosun is sprayed on the Ifá Opposite and scattered on the surface to mark the Odu Ifa. This powder is very important to Ifa and a competent Awo can use it to accomplish its purposes. This dust has been blessed by olodumare and whatever it is that Babalawo or Iyanifa wishes to do with it must be long before it is properly prepared. The position of the Iyerosun in Ifá is so important that the Ikin can not be used without this powder. Therefore, the most sacred aspect of Ifá can not be carried without the use of Iyerosun during divination
