Guidelines for Checking Snails: ⦁ If the snail's operculum (the soft tissue at the opening) is firm and intact, the snail is likely alive and adjusting. ⦁ If the operculum is damaged, and there is an unpleasant odor, this may indicate the snail is deceased.
