This is the fifth addition to the Lunar New Year Series, issued on January 5, 1997 in Honolulu, HI as a sheet of 20 32-cent stamps. Chinese-American artist Clarence Lee created a paper-cut image of each animal of the zodiac. This sheet features an image of a Ox, calligraphy by Lau Bun that translates in English as "Year of the Ox," and the greeting "Happy New Year!" The Lunar calendar in 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021 is symbolized by the Ox the 2nd animal in a 12 animal cycle.
