Brinell Hardness Range: 8-650HBW
The principle of Brinell hardness is to press a hardened steel ball or a hard alloy ball
with a diameter of D (mm) into the surface of metal to be tested with a certain test force F(N), and remove the test force after a predetermined time.
Use reading microscope to measure the average diameter d (mm) of indentation, and then calculate the Brinell hardness HB value according to formula,
or find HB value from the prepared Brinell hardness table according to d.
Since metal material can be hard or soft, workpiece can be thick or thin, large or small.
If only one standard test force F and head diameter are used, when same material is tested with different F and D,
whether the shape is similar, a certain matching relationship between F and D can be established to ensure the invariance of Brinell hardness.
Features
In general, the smaller Brinell hardness value, the softer material, and the larger indentation diameter.
Conversely, the larger Brinell hardness value, the harder material and the smaller indentation diameter.
The advantage of Brinell hardness measurement is that it has high measurement accuracy, large indentation area,
can reflect average hardness of the material in a wide range, the measured hardness value is also accurate, and the data repeatability is good.
Application
Brinell hardness measurement method is applicable to cast iron, non-ferrous alloy, various kinds of annealed, quenched and tempered steel.
It is not suitable to measure the pattern or workpiece which is too hard, too small, too thin and the surface is not allowed to have large indentation.
