O-rings are employed to prevent a channel via which a liquid or gas could otherwise escape. To secure the o-ring in place, it is inserted into a groove and compressed between two surfaces. The CS (cross-section) and ID (internal diameter) of an o-ring are the best ways to size it (inside diameter). A caliper, often known as a micrometer, is ideal for measuring the cross-section.
