This is the 1st type MBE awarded from its founding in 1917 until 1936. This award is a silver-coloured cross patonce surmounted above by the King's Crown, and a central medallion on the cross that is surrounded by the Order's motto 'For God and the Empire'. The centre of the cross depicts Britannia. This replica is of the Member class, the lowest of the order, and is presented with a small length of purple ribbon with a red stripe, denoting the award is of the Military Division and comes ready to attach with a brooch pin on the reverse.
