The internal combustion engine's crankshaft is the engine's backbone. The crankshaft is in charge of keeping the engine running smoothly and turning linear motion into rotational motion. To provide a longer service life, crankshafts should have extremely high fatigue strength and wear resistance. The crankshaft is subjected to a lot of cyclical loading. When choosing materials for crankshafts and camshafts, a high coefficient of thermal expansion can be an issue. Materials such as ductile iron, forged steel, and titanium are frequently used to make shafts.
