An ATV's flywheel is the most important part of its electrical system along with the ATV's stator. While the stator is stationary, the ATV's flywheel is attached to the crankshaft and spins around the stator in unison with the engine's RPM speed. Permanent magnets are attached to the inside rim of every flywheel. These magnets generate electricity when they pass over the stator's wire coils. The ATV's flywheel also communicates with the pick-up coil. A flywheel usually has one or more bumps on its outer rim to tell the pick-up coil where the engine's rotation is at, so it can give that information to the CDI box.
