Flax (Linum usitatissimum) is an annual, sometimes winter cultivated plant with a thin, straight, cylindrical, single, branched stalk on top. The stalks have up straight stems, up to 60 cm high. Leaves are sessile. The flowers are predominantly blue, sometimes white, rarely pink, collected in spreading thyroid inflorescences. The fruit is an ovoid spherical capsule with 6-10 seeds. Seeds are shiny, smooth, oblate, light brown in color. The plant blooms in June-July, the seeds ripen in August-September.
