The Active Fuel Management (AFM) Disabler is a device used in vehicles equipped with GM's Active Fuel Management system, which is designed to improve fuel efficiency by deactivating half of the engine's cylinders (typically four out of eight in V8 engines) during low-load conditions, such as highway cruising. When the vehicle is under lighter loads, the AFM system enables fuel savings by allowing the engine to operate on fewer cylinders.
