The black red beaded shekere is an ancient traditional percussion instrument of West Africa. Popular from Senegal to Nigeria, they are a central feature of traditional Ewe music. It was very enjoyable to make an instrument out of gourd. The handle I made from leather prevents it from slipping out of your hand while playing. I used about 500 wooden beads. It sounds quite high volume. It is 10 inches high and 8 inches wide. Made with parachute rope. Adorned with white beads. Please feel free to ask for different colors and size.
