Polytetrafluoroehylene (PTFE, Teflon) has one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any dry lubricant (.05-.08), nearly reaching the lubricity of aerospace lubricants such as Tungsten Disulfide and Molybdenum Disulfilde. Unlike other dry lubricants, PTFE excels at repelling water and is commonly used in applications exposed to the elements, such as bike chains and sprockets. Since it tends to be less messy than other dry lubricants, it can also be used in household applications such as sticky locks, drawer slides, musical instruments, and more.
