Engine Water Pump Inspection Tip
First you need to clean all dirt and debris from the water pump housing. Then run the vehicle to increase engine temperature and make sure the system is pressurized. Check the water pump outlet housing or rear cover gasket for leaks and the water pump vent or drain hole for leaks. If leaks occur with the engine running and the coolant system pressurized, the water pump will need to be replaced.
