Traditional timothy hays are sold in big, bulky bags. Inside these bags are large piles of hay that are cut and left out in the open air to "sun dry," and then compressed and packed into big, entangled blocks. There are many problems with this processing.
Traditional hays are cut when they are fully grown, consisting of big, hard stems of timothy hay for maximum weight and volume. But the tastiest parts are the tender green leaves, not the stems. Most traditional hays are uneaten because guinea pigs and rabbits don't eat the hard stems. Consequently, most of the hay becomes leftover trampled together with dirty bedding. So, don't be fooled by the weight of the hay; what matters is the edible tasty part.
Most of the flavors are lost in the sun-drying process. "Sun dry" may sound natural, but the truth is that it's a low-cost primitive way of drying the hays. It takes a long time and the hay will turn yellow, lose flavor, and become dusty due to long exposure to air, dust, humidity, and sun.
It's a pain to pull hays from big bags of entangled hays. It's very dusty, and the hard hay stems can prick your hand or finger. Additionally, droplets are everywhere, leaving a mess and clutter all around the cage.
Our premium spaghetti timothy hay is sourced from tenderly grown timothy hays before they grow into big stems. We are, of course, the “first cut,” but being the “first cut” doesn't really matter if hays are cut for weight and volumes of stems when they are fully grown. We ensure the first and top cut of only the tender green leaves.
After cutting, the green tender leaves are processed in a dustless factory to be cleansed and air-dried. The factory's air-dry process takes a very short time, and the leaves retain the maximum flavor, smell, and even the greenness is well-preserved. All of this is quickly sealed in air-tight bags. Our hay is noticeably greener and smells better than traditionally processed hays.
Our hay retains its natural form, which is straight and untangled. They don't need compression. They are like Italian spaghetti noodles naturally packed in bags. Taking them out and dispensing them is very easy. No entanglement, no dropout, and no hard stems to break your hand. Furthermore, our spaghetti hays are cut into exact lengths to fit perfectly into our hay feeder, making it extremely easy to take them out and drop them in! No clutter, no dust, no waste.
Our hay comes in small bags. Unlike big bags, once opened, the entire bag of hay is exposed to air and humidity and loses remaining freshness over time. With our small bag, opening one bag doesn't affect the flavor and freshness of the others.
You will immediately notice the happiness of having high-quality food. Piggies and bunnies love the tender green leaves without hard stems or dust. You will see the iconic scenes of a guinea pig eating a leaf by nibbling a long leaf from one end with the other end dangling from their mouth. This will become a repeating scene because piggies eat all the leaves this way. You will also notice a significant decrease in hay waste. Piggies will finish all the spaghetti hays you give them, leaving no waste on the floor.
We are seasoned guinea pig owners ourselves. In our measurement, one bag of our spaghetti hay can last for about a week for two guinea pigs. We started using 50% spaghetti hay and 50% traditional hay. We ended up shifting to 100% spaghetti hay for the hay quality and the ease of use.
