The RF-4E was the unarmed reconnaissance version of the famous two-seat McDonnell Douglas fighter F-4 Phantom II. It was designed and developed for export and was the combination of the RF-4C's reconnaissance system with the cell and powerful engines of the F-4E. The German Air Force received the first patterns in the early 70s and became one of the main users alongside Japan, Iran, Israel and Greece. In addition, many components and reconnaissance systems have also been manufactured in Germany. The RF-4E was able to perform reconnaissance missions "in any weather" in a very effective way thanks to the cameras installed in the bays, infrared sensors and the target search radar system. Some countries developed special versions that were better adapted to the respective application.
