Son Goku (孫 悟空) هو بطل الرواية الرئيسي في الامتياز الإعلامي. ظهر لأول مرة كصبي غريب الأطوار ذو ذيل قرد يمارس فنون الدفاع عن النفس ويمتلك قوة خارقة. يُعتقد في البداية أنه ولد على الأرض، لكنه علم لاحقًا أنه عضو في جنس محارب خارج كوكب الأرض يُدعى السايان، وهو أيضًا سبب قوته الخارقة، واسم ولادته هو كاكاروت (カカロット). عندما يكبر، يصبح أقوى محارب على وجه الأرض ويحمي كوكبه الأصلي من أولئك الذين يسعون إلى إيذاءه.
