St. Clare, inspired by her friend St. Francis of Assisi, embraced a life of religious poverty and devotion. In 1244, Emperor Frederick II's forces besieged her convent. Clare, holding the Eucharist, prayed fervently, causing the soldiers to retreat. During her prolonged illness, Clare was granted the gift of witnessing daily Mass on her wall. Today, the Poor Clares honor Clare's legacy of faith, simplicity, and joy. Feast Day: August 11.
