They are just heavy enough to keep your toes warm but not so bulky to be tight in your shoes. They wash up beautifully and had nor problem going through the dryer on normal cycle. They are thicker than your "thin" socks and thinner than your heavy wool socks so are perfect when you need something in the middle (which seems to be most of the time). They also are not as tight around your ankle/lower calf than most other socks in this length, which you really appreciate because who needs a tourniquet around their ankle??
