The Koki 106 shape is a container freight car that appeared in 1997 for use with marine containers. The setting structure and dolly were changed from the original Koki 105 model container cars to accommodate larger marine containers.

Marine Containers are sized by ISO international standards, and are mainly used in domestic with a total length of 20 feet and a height of 8'6" and 9'6".
9'6" tall containers are also called tall containers and are currently used primarily between Tokyo freight terminal station and Morioka freight terminal stations because the traffic area is limited.
