The core function of CPL filters is to eliminate reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water and glass, while enhancing the color saturation of the image, increasing the three-dimensional effect of sky blue and white clouds, and reducing the impact of atmospheric haze on imaging.
1. Eliminate reflections
Non metallic surfaces such as water surfaces and glass will produce strong reflections under direct sunlight, resulting in overexposure or loss of details in the image. CPL adjusts the polarization angle by rotating the lens to eliminate reflected light in specific directions, making underwater objects such as coral reefs and underwater reflections clearer and more visible. ‌
2. Improve color performance
This filter can enhance the color saturation of the image, making the blue sky bluer and the white clouds more three-dimensional. Especially when shooting scenes such as jungles and mountains, details such as glossy leaves and rock textures are more prominent.
3. Reduce the impact of atmospheric fogging:
When shooting in foggy weather, CPL can reduce the soft focus effect caused by fog, making the contours of the scene clearer.
