IMPORTANT: Regardless of your installation experience level, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. The threaded portion of these screws is less than a 16th of an inch in diameter and WILL break if you do not use proper care during installation.
For ALL installations, an adequate pilot hole of adequate depth is REQUIRED.
Check any existing holes for diameter and depth and use hand tools ONLY when installing.
The recommendation of virtually all screw suppliers is that for a #2 wood screw, a 1/16" diameter pilot hole is REQUIRED.
Drilling too small or not deep enough of a pilot hole WILL result in either the screw heads stripping out on soft screws, or breakage at or below the surface for hardened screws (these screws are hardened to prevent the heads from stripping).
